GMetrix is a performance-based platform designed to help you prepare for certification exams. 

Used to improve passing rates, the platform simulates actual exam conditions to help instill confidence and proficiency, offering both self-paced training and timed practice modes. 

Navigating GMetrix 

To use GMetrix, work from a PC in Newhouse’s 472 Edit Suites or 482A of Newhouse 2.  You can use 482A Mondays 12 – 5, Tuesdays + Thursdays after 3:30pm, and all of Friday. 

Once signed onto a PC, navigate to the search bar at the bottom and locate GMetrix SMSe. Once GMetrix is open, using the Microsoft Sign-In Option, sign in with your SU email and password. After completing dual two-factor authentication, you will arrive at the GMetrix home screen. 

Redeem Access Code 

In the left menu, select Redeem Code to access the Microsoft Excel Practice tests and Trainings. When a small box appears, enter the Access Code given to you by your instructor in an email. DO NOT share with anyone else outside of your class. This is a private link only available to certain Advertising Newhouse classes.

Training + Testing Modes – GMetrix offers two modes: Training (learning + review) and Testing (demo readiness). 

On the Home page, navigate to Practice Excel 365. Here, you will see practice exams. Hovering over each exam allows you to choose between training mode or testing mode. Training mode: provides guidance + hints with no time limit. Testing mode: simulates the real exam with a 50-min. time limit  

When launching a test in Testing Mode, change the mode to Testing and then hit the blue ‘Start Test’ button. This will open the GMetrix Practice Exam alongside Excel. Each practice exam includes 7 projects, each with multiple tasks. You will complete and submit each project then receive a final score at the end of the exam. Results are automatically imported into the system for review.
